Now available in many countries: BEGO 3D printing materials for permanent and temporary restorations for the Microlay Versus 385 3D printer*

The use of BEGO's industry-leading 3D printing materials for permanent and temporary dental restorations, VarseoSmile Crown plus and VarseoSmile Temp, is now approved for the Microlay Versus 385 3D printer in many countries.

In May this year, Microlay, the Madrid-based expert in high-tech dental 3D manufacturing solutions for dentists and dental technicians, and BEGO, the Bremen-based dental materials specialist with over 130 years of experience in the dental industry and more than 20 years of expertise in dental 3D printing, announced their 3D printing partnership. This includes the validation and supply of VarseoSmile Crown plus and VarseoSmile Temp, as well as other BEGO 3D printing materials, for use with the Microlay Versus 385 3D printer. This gives users the ability to efficiently and economically print aesthetic temporary and permanent restorations, providing an excellent patient experience.

VarseoSmile Crown plus is the world's first approved tooth-colored, ceramic-filled hybrid material for 3D printing definitive restorations such as crowns, inlays, onlays and veneers, and features excellent mechanical and scientifically confirmed properties that rival those of traditional crown materials. Combined with efficient 3D printing workflows, patients can receive same-day aesthetic restorations 3D-printed by their dentists or their lab partners – at a material cost of only a few euros.

"We are very pleased to finally offer VarseoSmile materials to our users worldwide in many countries", said Miguel Goñi, Managing Director at Microlay. "BEGO's 3D printing materials and our Microlay Versus 385 3D printer are great partners for producing fast, cost-effective and high-quality restorative solutions".

Thanks to its solid-state light generator and Full HD DLP projector (1920 x 1080 pixels), the new Microlay Versus 385 is capable of very precise printing.

"To ensure optimal print quality, exactly the same amount of UV energy must be supplied on each layer. Other printers on the market that have LED projectors are not able to maintain a constant energy level throughout the printing process", Goñi continues. "In addition, LEDs tend to lose intensity within a few hours of use, requiring constant adjustment of material profiles. Thanks to its internal radiometer, on the other hand, the Microlay Versus is able to automatically calibrate the amount of energy not only before each print, but also before each layer in less than a second, ensuring accuracy across each specific print and for years to come".

"Dental 3D printing solutions are gaining ground over traditional crown fabrication methods. For example, our VarseoSmile materials in combination with Microlay Versus 3D printers score particularly well in terms of cost, speed and customizability", said Thomas Kwiedor, Head of Business Development 3D Printing at BEGO. "The partnership with Microlay is another important step for us on the way to making our material portfolio accessible to the widest possible range of users, thus helping countless laboratories, dental practices and, above all, patients."
